Designing an AI legal assistant people are willing to trust

Jurix answers legal questions, checks contracts and drafts UAE documents such as NDAs. A confident wrong answer about a contract can cost a company a deal, so the main design question was trust. I was the product's UX/UI designer from the start of the redesign in January 2026 until the launch in May.

The task

Fast legal help that still feels safe to act on

A lawyer is expensive for standard paperwork, and answers take days. An AI answers in seconds, but legal questions are where people trust it least. Most of our users are expat founders who don't know the UAE legal system well enough to catch a mistake themselves.

Five ways the interface earns trust

Show the work

While the agent works, the chat says what it is doing in plain words: searching documents, getting best practices from UAE law, analyzing risks, building a conclusion. When the answer is ready, the steps fold into “Thought for 10s”, and a pill shows how many sources it used.

Say where AI ends

Jurix doesn't pretend to be a lawyer. The FAQ answers the uncomfortable questions directly, such as “How accurate are the answers?” and “Can Jurix AI guarantee legal compliance?”. The answer to the second one is no, and the product says so. Wherever the stakes are high, the copy says the same thing:

Use Jurix AI for preparation, then consult a qualified lawyer for final advice.

Data gets the same treatment. “Is my data safe?” has a plain answer, deleting an account removes all chats and files, and a link the agent hasn't verified comes with a warning: “Only proceed if you trust it.”
