MeetRec

Call recorder · macOS and Windows · 2026

A free call recorder that keeps every speaker on a separate track

I'm on calls most days and kept losing track of what we agreed on. The tools I tried were paid, or gave me a summary when I wanted the transcript. So a friend and I built our own. He wrote the recording engine, I designed the app and built its interface.

Recording and text should be the free part

Most recorders join the call as a bot or keep the transcript behind a paywall. MeetRec records what your computer plays and what you say into the mic. The call never sees it.

An app that asks once, then stays out of the way

It notices the call

When Zoom, Teams, Slack or Discord starts a call, a small panel appears over the call window and asks whether to record. A minute before a calendar meeting with a Zoom, Meet or Teams link, the same panel offers to join and record in one click.

Nothing gets cut off

The app keeps the last 30 seconds of audio in memory, so the recording starts a little before you press the button.

One track per speaker

Your mic and the call audio are saved as two separate files. Otherwise the transcript can't tell who said what.

The main window with recorded calls.

One small window, one set of rules

Before drawing screens, I set up a design system for the 460×640 window: four kinds of buttons, one “⋯” menu for everything secondary, and the Tokyo Night palette. Every screen after that was built from those parts.

Your computer, your server

Recording happens on your computer. For transcription the audio goes to a server you set up yourself. Leave those settings empty and nothing leaves the machine.

Happy to walk through the parts that did not fit here. Let's get on a call.
